Organic Acai Oil is extracted and filtered from the pulp of the fruit from the Acai Palm plant having the botanical name Euterpe oleracea. This natural oil is virgin, otherwise referred to as unrefined, and exhibits its characteristic aroma and appearance. The Acai drupe contains high levels of polyphenols, specifically anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins, which are known to carry antioxidant properties. Rich in vitamins C, B, E, and zinc, Acai oil is heavily concentrated with desired essential fatty acids such as linoleic acid (omega 6), oleic acid (omega 9), and palmitic acid. Due to its palmitic acid content which is a saturated fat, it is normal for virgin acai oil to experience fractionization and form natural liquid crystals. When this occurs, gentle warm up the material and mix to bring the virgin oil to a homogeneous solution. Virgin is considered the natural/raw material with the characteristic color, flavor, and aroma. Refining removes these properties so the material is a lighter shade than the virgin material and often times clear, off-white, or white with little-to-no scent or flavor.
Refined, bleached (non-chemical process), deodorized. An "RBDW" product goes through a winterization ("W") process in addition to the RBD process.
Deodorized materials go through a non-chemical, high-vacuum process to reduce their natural aroma. While the aroma is not removed fully, a deodorized product’s aroma is less potent than the natural or unrefined variety.
