Soybean oil, also referred to as soya bean with the botanical name Glycine max, is one of the world’s most widely distributed natural oils, derived from a species of legume native to East Asia. This variety of soybean oil is unique due to its high oleic fatty acid content and produced in the US without any genetic modification. The yielded oil carries a light honey colored appearance with a bland characteristic aroma and flavor profile. Due to its high level of oleic fatty acid, this soybean oil increases stability of a product and can extend shelf life. High oleic fatty acid, a monounsaturated fat, is advantageous in high heat cooking applications and resists oxidation along with a higher smoke point. Food manufactures opt for high oleic soybean oil to decrease oil usage and waste as the oil can be used repeatedly in frying applications without switching out the fryers. Non-GMO high oleic soybean oil is used in the production of a wide range of consumable foods such as potato chips, snack bars, popcorn, and baked goods. In addition to food manufacturing, soybean oil high in oleic fatty acid content is used in cosmetic and personal-care formulations for its excellent moisturizing properties and ability to hydrate and protect the skin.

Virgin is considered the natural/raw material with the characteristic color, flavor, and aroma. Refining removes these properties so the material is a lighter shade than the virgin material and often times clear, off-white, or white with little-to-no scent or flavor.
Refined, bleached (non-chemical process), deodorized. An "RBDW" product goes through a winterization ("W") process in addition to the RBD process.
Deodorized materials go through a non-chemical, high-vacuum process to reduce their natural aroma. While the aroma is not removed fully, a deodorized product’s aroma is less potent than the natural or unrefined variety.
