Organic Shea Nut oil is a by-product of shea nut butter, obtained from the nuts of the Karite tree and produced by lightly heating to separate the fractionated and non-fractionated makeup of the material. The fractionated material is then fully refined, resulting in a transparent oil with a pale-yellow appearance. Shea nut oil is an ideal ingredient used throughout the personal-care industry to manufacture skin creams, lotions, and cosmetic make-up. Its physical properties allow it to easily absorb into the skin and promote skin elasticity without leaving an oily or greasy residue typical of many oils. Due to its natural emollient properties, its often utilized in products targeting dry or damaged skin and hair. With a relatively high level of Vitamins A, E, F, and oleic fatty acid content, organic shea nut oil may sooth sensitive skin types and has become a favorable ingredient used in hot oil treatments by massage therapists.

Virgin is considered the natural/raw material with the characteristic color, flavor, and aroma. Refining removes these properties so the material is a lighter shade than the virgin material and often times clear, off-white, or white with little-to-no scent or flavor.
Refined, bleached (non-chemical process), deodorized. An "RBDW" product goes through a winterization ("W") process in addition to the RBD process.
Deodorized materials go through a non-chemical, high-vacuum process to reduce their natural aroma. While the aroma is not removed fully, a deodorized product’s aroma is less potent than the natural or unrefined variety.
