Marula oil is cold pressed extracted from the kernels of Sclerocarya birrea, yielding a light pale to golden yellow material with a mild characteristic nutty aroma. Due to natural variation in the starting raw material, appearance and aroma can be expected to vary in virgin (unrefined) materials such as this virgin organic marula oil from batch to batch. Marula oil is notably praised for its ability to absorb easily into the skin without leaving a greasy residue and is gaining popularity in the personal care and cosmetic industry for its natural moisturizing properties. Marula oil is present in various topical products such as shampoo targeting damaged or fragile hair, skin regimen applications, and a range of serums and creams for daily and nightly use. Organic marula oil contains a high content of omega-3 oleic fatty acid and natural antioxidants advantageous for stability in formulations.

Virgin is considered the natural/raw material with the characteristic color, flavor, and aroma. Refining removes these properties so the material is a lighter shade than the virgin material and often times clear, off-white, or white with little-to-no scent or flavor.
Refined, bleached (non-chemical process), deodorized. An "RBDW" product goes through a winterization ("W") process in addition to the RBD process.
Deodorized materials go through a non-chemical, high-vacuum process to reduce their natural aroma. While the aroma is not removed fully, a deodorized product’s aroma is less potent than the natural or unrefined variety.
