Manuka honey MGO 83+ is produced in New Zealand after bees pollinate the Manuka bush Leptospermum scoparium. Manuka honey has long been coveted for its naturally occurring levels of the organic compound methylglyoxal, most referred to as MGO. Manuka honey is a highly viscous liquid with a light to dark amber appearance, characteristic honey aroma, and naturally sweet flavor profile with a level of bitterness that correlates to the level of MGO content. This variety of honey contains a minimum of 83mg of MGO per kilogram as noted by in its name. Manuka honey is mainly procured for benefits in personal-care and cosmetic products. Additionally, it is used as a flavoring agent and a sweetener in tea, hot and cold cereals, smoothies, yogurts, candy, and lozenges. In skincare applicatons, it acts as a soothing element in facial masks, hair masks, moisturizers, balms, and body creams. In many households, manuka honey is a preferred ingredient for home remedies.
