Lard – Deodorized is a shortening produced from rendered hog fat. Lard is a major ingredient in soapmaking for its conditioning properties and produces a hard, long-lasting soap bar. As a deodorized material, this natural ingredient exhibits a bland aroma and flavor profile. In food service, food manufacturing, and home baking, lard is often used in place of butter and other cooking fats. It creates a preferred texture in pie crusts, biscuits, pastries, and other dough. With a high smoke point of over 400°F, lard is used in searing and frying applications. Bulk lard is frequently utilized in candle making and industrial applications. Less than 1% of BHT and citric acid have been added as a preservative.
