Cedarwood oil is an essential oil sourced from the United States extracted from the chips and sawdust of the cedar tree by distillation. The cedarwood raw material used for distillation is derived from discarded cedar tree and stumps; no logging is practiced for the sole purpose of extracting oil. Its characteristic woodsy aroma may vary while the oil dries and exhibit natural variation from lot to lot. The important constituents of cedar essential oils are cedrol and cedrene, contributing to the sought after aroma of the oil. Cedarwood oil is used as a fragrance in personal-care and cosmetic items such as soaps and balms in addition to commonly finding use in natural cleaning products including household sprays and floor polishes. Other products commonly formulated with this essential oil include pest control products, siding, and decking to protect against rot and insects. Please note this is not for internal use and should be avoided by pregnant women.
