Castor Oil – Virgin USP is cold pressed extracted from Ricinus communis seeds followed by a thorough filtration process. The yielded oil exhibits a characteristic aroma and yellow hue given it remains in its unrefined, natural state being a virgin material. This highly sought-after ingredient is praised for its natural moisturizing and emollient properties, promoting its usage in cosmetic and personal-care formulations across a wide variety of topical products. USP Grade Virgin Castor oil is used in standalone applications specifically for the hair and skin in addition to being blended with other natural materials in cosmetic items. Virgin is considered the natural/raw material with the characteristic color, flavor, and aroma. Refining removes these properties so the material is a lighter shade than the virgin material and often times clear, off-white, or white with little-to-no scent or flavor.
Refined, bleached (non-chemical process), deodorized. An "RBDW" product goes through a winterization ("W") process in addition to the RBD process.
Deodorized materials go through a non-chemical, high-vacuum process to reduce their natural aroma. While the aroma is not removed fully, a deodorized product’s aroma is less potent than the natural or unrefined variety.
