Roasted Organic Carob Powder, also referred to as Carob flour, originates from the ground pods of the Carob tree, botanically known as Ceratonia silqua. Once the seeds are removed from the pods they are crushed and roasted before being ground into a fine powder. This fine grain is very similar to Cocoa Powder in both aroma and color. Carob powder can be substituted for cocoa powder in a 1-to-1 ratio. It is a sweet and healthy substitute for chocolate as it is lower in fat content, caffeine free and a good source of fiber. Non-GMO carob powder is increasing in popularity throughout the food and beverage formulation sector and is used regularly as a natural sweetener for a variety of baked goods as well as nutritional supplement blends.
