Organic Fair Trade Pure Vanilla Extract, Two Fold (2x), is extracted from the Vanilla planifolia species, a climbing vanilla orchid that produces vanilla pods. Two-fold vanilla extract is produced using twice as many vanilla beans as a single-fold vanilla extract, yielding a more potent vanilla aroma and flavor profile. Once organic vanilla beans are extracted from the vanilla pods, they go through a grinding process and are immersed in water and organic alcohol, producing a dark brown liquid that carries a distinctive vanilla aroma.
This particular organic vanilla extract is also referred to as Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract due to the renowned region in which the vanilla beans are harvested. The Bourbon Islands include the islands of Réunion, Madagascar, Mauritius, Comoro and Seychelles. Madagascar has become the world's top vanilla producer in terms of both quantity and quality over the years due to the grower's ability to select the best flowers and properly space them to result in a higher quality vanilla pod. The natural environment in Madagascar in terms of heat, humidity and rich soil has contributed to Madagascar's success in producing high-quality vanilla pods on a commercial scale.
