Maca, also known as Lepidium meyenii, is a cruciferous vegetable found in the Peruvian Andes that has been used for thousands of years for nutritional and supplemental purposes. This fine grain, light brown organic powder carrying a slightly nutty flavor profile, is milled from 100% sun-dried organic Maca root. The resulting maca powder is then gelatinized through a controlled heated extrusion process that breaks down the starch, making it more soluble, digestible and absorbable than raw maca powder. In addition to being an excellent source of protein and fiber, maca powder has 20 amino acids and is packed with antioxidants and micronutrients. Additionally, maca powder is often used as an energy-booster and is commonly added to protein blends, smoothies and nutritional supplements.
