The only member of the Boraginaceae family grown commercially, borage is an important oil for dietary supplement manufacturers. Borage oil contains the highest level of γ-Linolenic found in any readibly available specialty oil. A biological intermediate in the conversion of linoleic acid to arachidonic acid, γ-Linolenic's health properties are currently being closely examined.
The level of γ-Linolenic in borage oil can vary from 16% to 27%.
